Together with the StatName, we’re analyzing how much the top PLO players earned in August. We’ll compare their winnings and win rates with the top NLHE players from July and explore the features of PLO cash games.

But first, some important notes:

  • StatName considers net profit at cash tables. Rakeback and rewards from leaderboards and promotions are not included in the statistics.
  • StatName tracks results only at cash tables (fast-fold poker tables are not included).
  • StatName statistics may differ from your HUD statistics because some hands may be lost during import. However, the sample of hands in StatName remains representative and provides an accurate picture of the player.

PL10: Get Ready for Astronomical Win Rates at PLO Tables

Even at the lowest stakes of PLO, several differences stand out compared to NLHE:

  • Double-digit win rates: No one on the top leaderboard has a win rate below 11.6 bb/100.
  • Smaller sample sizes: The average number of hands played by Omaha players is 8.9K, compared to 24K for Hold’em players.

The main similarity: NL10 and PL10 are not the stakes where you’ll make a lot of money. The best result was achieved by “Spadow” on PokerStars: $494 over 13K hands.

PL25: The Best Player Earned Twice as Much as the Best NL25 Player

“StarClaimer” won $2.1K on GGPoker. However, there’s one key detail: he played a massive 67K hands — four times more than the best NL25 player. To remind you, in July, “SpleenRiffa” earned $1.1K over a 15K-hand.

Overall, the profits are more or less comparable. However, on average, PLO players tend to play half as many hands.

By the way, you can track any number of players up to PL25 for free on the StatName website.

PL50: Players Earn Less Than at NL50

Remember when we mentioned that NL50 is the stake where you should start considering poker as a source of income? If you’re playing Omaha, it’s better to aim for PL100.

The top PL50 players earned from $1.1K. Leading the leaderboard is “BemEuropeu”, with $1.9K over a large sample of 39K hands. For comparison, “KajaKallas_” earned $3.3K in NL50 over 49K hands.

Overall, the secret to big profits in both Hold’em and Omaha is the same: the more hands you play, the higher your profit.

PL100: This Is Where the Serious Money in Omaha Begins

The best player of the month is “dayyNnight”, who earned $5.5K over 20K hands. The results of the top Omaha players are comparable to those of the top Hold’em players. The average number of hands played is 12K, with profits starting at $2.1K.

PL200: Include 888poker in Your Mix

Here’s another unusual observation we discovered among Omaha players.

In the top rankings of NLHE players for July, there wasn’t a single player from 888poker. However, on PL200, the best player was “Vladimir1337” from 888poker, with a profit of $6.5K over 5.1K hands and an astronomical win rate of 63.4 bb/100. Note that “Kotk” on GGPoker won $100 less but played five times more hands.

If you play Omaha, be sure to include 888poker in your mix: there is traffic at the PLO cash games, and the opponents are softer than in other rooms.

PL1K+: Tom Vogelsang Won $100K at PL2K

Tom Vogelsang was the only Omaha player to achieve a six-figure profit in August. The main reason is that Omaha is typically played at lower stakes than Hold’em (there is less traffic at high limits in Omaha than in Hold’em).

For example, the top NLHE players in July were playing at stakes of NL5K and above. It’s also possible that higher stakes than PL2K+ are played on poker sites not tracked by StatName.
